A new addition to Lyssn’s Learn & Practice library is here: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) Training, created in collaboration with Dr. Michael P. Twohig and Dr. Michael Levin.
ACT is a well-established, evidence-based approach. But like many clinical models, the real challenge is turning that knowledge into something you can use in the moment with clients.
This training is designed to help close that gap, giving clinicians the chance to build and practice ACT skills in a way that actually translates to real conversations.
What You’ll Experience
As you move through the training, you’ll be introduced to core ACT concepts and have the opportunity to apply them right away through realistic client scenarios, with feedback built in to help refine your approach as you go.
A Closer Look at the Modules
The training is structured around five core ACT processes, each introduced in a focused, practical way:
Module 1: Cognitive Defusion
- Focus on helping clients shift how they relate to their thoughts – seeing them as thoughts, not facts
- Apply this skill across a range of client scenarios to support more flexible, values-driven action
Module 2: Acceptance/Willingness
- Help clients make space for difficult emotions without trying to control or avoid them
- Practice using this approach in different situations to support continued engagement in meaningful activities
Module 3: Mindfulness of the Present Moment
- Support clients in noticing when attention drifts and bringing it back to the present
- Work through scenarios where clients are caught in thoughts about the past or future
Module 4: Values
- Guide clients in identifying what matters most to them and how they want to show up in their lives
- Practice helping clients clearly articulate their values across different scenarios
Module 5: Committed Action
- Help clients take small, meaningful steps toward what matters to them
- Practice building clear, achievable commitments across a variety of real-world contexts
Each module focuses on one core skill, while also reinforcing how these processes naturally work together in practice through realistic client interactions.
